Blogging 101 - The Mistakes And Remedies

Blogging 101 - The Mistakes And Remedies

If you have recently started to write a blog, you have probably done so in the hope of earning extra money; and though blogger earnings vary, earning money is definitely possible. The trouble is that many bloggers who should be earning money aren’t. If your blog isn’t as successful as you imagined, or you want to start your blog with some informed advice, here are a few mistakes you should avoid making.

Patience

It will take time for your blog to have enough traffic to earn you money, so you need to be patient. Even the most successful blogs take a long time to build their audiences. You will need time for your writing style to develop, and for your blog to become known. Patience and perseverance are needed; without them you may as well not start; so don’t make the mistake of not giving your blog some time to be successful.

Subject

Your subject will be the life’s blood of your blog, so chose your niche wisely. Your blog will need to be interesting and informative or people will simply tune out. For your blog to sound interesting, you will need to be interested in the subject;you have to bring life to your writing, and this is easiest with something you are passionate about. You may not need to be a leader in your field, but your readers will expect your posts to be full of the right information; so research the things you write about, and people will visit your blog for education as well as entertainment.

Quantity not Quality

You may feel that you need to be pumping out blog after blog to bring new material to your visitors, but this is a big mistake. Your readers will want quality blog posts to read, and if they do want quantity, there is a world of bloggers to choose from. Successful bloggers are famed for their posts, not the speed they can type.

Proofreading

If you imagine you can write a quality post in 30 minutes, and post it to your blog without proof reading it, you are probably misguided. Once you have written a blog (after relevant research and planning), you need to read it through thoroughly. This will help you to see if the flow of the blog feels natural, and hopefully highlight any grammar mistakes that you have made; but that is not the end of your scrutiny. You should now leave your work for at least a few hours, and re-read it with fresh eyes, or even better, have somebody read it for you. Writers often read what they expect to be on the page, so proof read well, and ensure quality work is presented to your reader.

Computer Hosting

It is possible to run your blog from your home computer, but if you think that is a reliable way to give your reader 24 hour access, then that is another mistake. For a consistent presence on the web you need professional hosting. There is a range of possibilities for hosting your blog, but if you want to guarantee your presence, you should have a managed dedicated server. This will mean all of your hard work will be available whenever a reader tries to visit your blog.

Marketing

Earlier we talked about patience, but too much patience is not always a virtue. Instead of sitting back and waiting to generate traffic to your blog, you should look at marketing your blog instead. Not marketing a blog is a mistake if you want to generate any real income and, in truth, you should be using a variety of marketing strategies. From guest blogs to social media, the choice is wide; and as the saying goes “the more the merrier”.
If you are serious about earning money as a blogger, you will need to make as few mistakes as possible. Very few (if any) bloggers get it right the first time, but, hopefully, with these tips you can avoid some of the mistakes that are so common among bloggers.
