How to do a Factory Reset on your Chromebook

If you are experienced frequent crashes or any issues with your Chromebook, resetting it to its original factory state, also known as powerwash, will resolve the problems. Moreover, a factory reset of your laptop may reduce the need for a full reinstallation of Windows. Now, let’s see how to do a factory reset on Chromebook.
Please note that performing a factory reset will erase your local data, so be sure to backup all your important data before you perform this action. Resetting your device will not affect your accounts themselves, or any data synced to these accounts.
  1. Click the status area in the lower-right corner.
  2. Select ‘Settings’ and click ‘Show Advanced Settings’.
  3. In the ‘Powerwash’ section, click the ‘powerwash’ button.

After you restart the Chromebook, you should now see the setup screen. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up your Chromebook again. Make sure you sign in with your primary Google Account, because this account will be set as the owner account.
